Antony Froggatt

The author works as independent European energy consultant. Since 1997 he has worked as a freelance consultant on energy and nuclear issues in the EU and neighbouring states. He has written reports and briefings on EU and global energy policy issues for various organisations, including: Financial Times; Green/EFA Group in the European Parliament: Eurosafe (French and Germany nuclear regulatory agencies); Greenpeace International; Friends of the Earth; and WWF. He has also given evidence to inquiries and hearings in the Parliaments of Austria, Germany and the EU. He has also worked extensively with en-vironmental groups in Eastern Europe, helping to establish a network on energy efficiency. Furthermore, he is a regular speaker at conference and training programmes across the region and the EU.

Stephen Thomas

The author is a Senior Research Fellow at the Public Services International Research Unit in the University of Greenwich, London, where he leads the energy research. He has a BSc in Chemistry (Bristol). He has worked as an independent energy policy researcher for more than 20 years. From 1979-2000, he was a member of the Energy Policy Programme at SPRU, University of Sussex and in 2001, he spent 10 months as a visiting researcher in the Energy Planning Programme at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Energy Policy (since 2000), the International Journal of Regulation and Governance (since 2001), Energy and Environment (since 2002) and Utilities Policy (since 2003), and he is a founder member of a network of academics in Northern European countries (the REFORM group) examining policy aspects of the liberalisation of energy systems. He was a member of the team appointed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Develop-ment to carry out the official economic due diligence study for the project to replace the Cher-nobyl nuclear power plant (1997). He was a member of an international panel appointed by the South African Department of Minerals and Energy to carry out a study of the technical and economic viability of a new design of nuclear power plant, the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (2001-02).

Dr. jur. Dörte Fouquet

From 1982 until 1985 author worked as research assistant with the law department of the University of Hamburg, passed both state-exams (1982 and 1988) in Hamburg. She received Dr. jur. of the University of Hamburg. From 1998 to 2002 she worked as lawyer in the energy administration of Hamburg. Since the beginning of 1993 she is partner of the law firm Kuhbier + Fouquet (now Kuhbier law firm). Dr. Fouquet is specialised in European and International Energy and Competition Law with strong focus on fair access to markets, especially for independent power producers and with concentration on issues related to energy efficiency and renewable energies. Since 1999 she represents EREF (European Renewable Energies Federation) in Brussels. EREF is an association of producers of energy from renewable sources.

Peter Diehl

The author has been involved in uranium mining issues since 1982, when he joined a local environmental group opposing development of a new uranium mine in the Southwestern part of Germany. In the late 1980s and early 1990s he was busy networking among environmental groups concerned about uranium mining all over Europe. Since 1995, he is running the Uranium Project of the World Information Service on Energy (WISE), an Amsterdam-based NGO providing networking services for anti-nuclear groups worldwide.

Ing. Jindřich Kalous

Author graduated on University of chemical technology in Pardubice (1979). He worked in Czech paper and chemical industry both as technician and manager. Since 2000 he works as a commercial representative for Czech branch of international consortium in paper industry. Member of Mensa ČR. Since July 2005 member of Trast for Economy and society - think tank for developement of alternatives in economy and policy. He systematically follows problem of oil-peak.
